bytecode disassembler

Disassemble EVM bytecode or any deployed contract into opcodes. Lists the functions in the dispatcher with their names, events it emits, hardcoded addresses, the compiler version and IPFS hash from the metadata, the size against the 24 KB limit, and flags delegatecall, selfdestruct and tx.origin.

good to know

how are functions found without the source?

solidity’s dispatcher compares the calldata selector with each function’s 4-byte selector (PUSH4 … EQ). those constants are read out of the code and named from the public signature database.

where does the compiler version come from?

solc appends cbor-encoded metadata to the end of the runtime code: the compiler version and the ipfs hash of the full metadata json (sources, settings, abi).

creation code vs runtime code?

creation (init) code runs once: the constructor, then it returns the runtime code, which is what lives at the address. the size limit is 24,576 bytes for runtime and 49,152 for initcode.
