why do i need big blocks?
small blocks have a 2M gas limit, so most contract deploys don’t fit. switch to big blocks (30M gas, about one a minute), deploy, then switch back for fast confirmations.
does switching cost gas?
no. it is a signed hyperliquid action, not a transaction. your address needs a hyperliquid account (any usdc deposit) for the action to be accepted.
can i do it from a script instead?
yes: the hyperliquid python sdk has exchange.use_big_blocks(True). check the result with the eth_usingBigBlocks rpc method.
